Eastlawn Cemetery was established in 1884 originally as a Swarthmore Friends Quaker Graveyard. It once was a large part of what is now Milmont Park, spanning the surrounding blocks of Brookside, 7th Ave., and Girard Ave. Over the years land was sold of to create the vibrant neighborhood it is currently nestled in. We now house six active lots (A, B, C, D, E, F, G). Eastlawn Cemetery Company is now currently a 501(c) 13 nonprofit that is constantly striving to be both a vital and a restful place for the surrounding communities and the families we service.

Our Mission

To provide the community with not only an open natural space for people to congregate, enjoy and remember, but to be able to offer a final resting place at a reasonable price, and when possible, discounted or free lots, or reasonable payment plans for people in our community who find themselves in need of assistance during what can be an emotionally and financially difficult time. Our goal is to keep the cemetery a vital part of people’s everyday lives by integrating an arboretum-like experience using native plants to encourage native flora and fauna back into our area, while also keeping the history and memorial of our community's loved ones maintained for future generations.

What We've Achieved and what we are working on

  • New Board put together (2019)

  • New Grounds Maintenance direction (2020)

  • Working on a search engine for existing lot holders

  • Updated map and plot information of the grounds (2019)

  • New gardens installed at the front gates and in Section F

  • We are looking into installing a cremation niche wall or columbarium.

  • We are working on headstone restoration. Righting larger headstones that have tipped over due to tree growth between the stones, leveling sinking stones, and digging up flats that have sunk below the grass.

  • We are working towards holding donor events and and community events.
